Training

Monday 24th Feb
I went for my first river paddle in my kayak on the weekend on the beautiful Barwon River at Ocean Grove/Barwon Heads.  I paddled from the boat ramp at the caravan park to the bridge and back.  On the way there I had the tide and wind with me and was cruising at about 10km/h (the average pace I am targeting for the MMP).  The return journey was tough and my pace dropped to around 5km/h, but it was good to get a taste of what paddling with the current would be like.  My legs are still getting a little numb so hopefully this will subside with more paddling time.  Thanks again to all who have donated, we are about a quarter of the way to the target.

Bay Sports

Wednesday 12th Feb
Hi everyone
I had another paddle on the weekend and it was pretty windy.  I think I have worked out the right setup for me with the peddles and thigh braces in the kayak, so hopefully my next paddle can be longer and I can start to build some endurance.
Also, I have to give a huge shout out to Bay Sports, where I purchased the kayak.  Their advice and follow ups have been really impressive, especially since I had no idea.  I highly recommend them if anyone is interested in a kayak, SUP, etc.

The Maiden Voyage

Sunday 2nd Feb
First time in my new kayak. Didn't fall in so I was happy. Few little things to work out, but otherwise it was a success.

The Beginning

Thursday 30th Jan
I've signed up to the MMP and am keen to get stuck into training.  Slight issue - my kayak is still on order and will likely arrive next week.  In the meantime, I have the gym and my runners to keep strength and fitness at a decent level (for a 43 year old).

I'll aim to provide regular updates on the training for those interested in following the journey.

Much love,
Michael
